“Get a Mammogram” Sweepstakes

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey strongly advocates mammography as the best screening tool for the early detection of breast cancer.  Our current guidelines for breast cancer screening parallel the American Cancer Society’s guidelines.  We continue to work with national organizations, such as the American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen for the Cure®´´, to ensure our guidelines provide adequate breast cancer screening coverage for our members.

In honor of Mother’s Day 2010, Horizon BCBSNJ formed a strategic alliance with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®´´ Central and South Jersey Affiliate to launch the “Get a Mammogram” initiative to educate and raise awareness of the importance of an annual mammogram.

To keep this healthy momentum going and encourage screening of eligible female Horizon HMO members, Horizon BCBSNJ is running a sweepstakes to promote breast cancer screening.  Simply get a mammogram as recommended by your physician and fully complete the entry form you received in the mail.  Return the completed form to us, postage paid, by November 30, 2010.

Starting at age 40, all women should get a mammogram every year.  If you are under 40 and have a family history of breast cancer or other concerns  you should consult with your health care professional about when to begin getting mammograms.
